The skies are bright with the beautiful Venus-Jupiter conjunction that was exactly conjunct last Wednesday when there was a Full Moon. However, the Full Moon was flanked by Mars and Pluto which can bring death and destruction. At the height of these ominous alignments, our 2-year old great niece, Susanna Elisa Dreher (Susie), was killed when she ran from a playground out into the path of a car in Seattle. Our family is wrapping Susie’s parents in love: Jon and Veronica, along with Susie’s sisters Jillian and Genevieve. Especially when it calls out a young person whose life was way too short, death reminds us that life is precious. Such poignant events call on us to live life every moment to its fullest, and to be ever grateful for our family and friends.
In the collective, the last two weeks have resulted in tragedy, triumph, and big changes in history. Nine African-Americans were shot by a young, angry white supremacist in Charleston. Yet this event has since triggered the removal of the confederate flag in many places. President Obama gave one absolutely inspiring, history-making speech at a landmark moment in human/civil rights at the funeral of Clementa Pinckney in Charleston. The Supreme Court voted to recognize gay marriage on Friday, June 26. The world is changing big time…and all of us are called to higher ground.
Sunday morning beckons us to clean up after the holiday partying and put things back in order. The Moon moves into Pisces, calling for a relaxing day and a gentle end to the past bold and dynamic week. Settle in with an inspiring book or movie, and end the day with a soothing warm, hot bath.
This week ahead is a hot, volatile week, yet also one filled with opportunity and surprise. The potential for both tragedy and triumph continues in the current planetary alignments. Venus and Jupiter are conjunct in Leo, and making a benefic trine to Uranus in Aries. From a Western astrological perspective this alignment symbolizes love, beauty, pleasure, and good luck; from a Vedic perspective, I’ve learned this weekend at a Vedic astrology conference, these planets are so close in the sky that they are at war, vying for space. The hot planets Sun, Mars, and Pluto are in tight aspect. Sun and Mars are bold and dynamic and can bring challenges. The Sun’s energy is already hot, and fiery Pluto and Mars add fuel to the fire. These aspects may make our planet even hotter and emphasize global warming, as seems to be happening with the unprecedented heat wave in Seattle. People’s tempers may be explosive, too. This is a week to be careful, as troubles can be easily ignited. A positive use of this energy would be to get moving! However, the planetary energy in July is unstable in general, so move slowly and carefully and don’t move forward if you don’t have a green light.
Another alignment at the beginning of this week is Mercury strong in its ruling sign (Gemini) and in an opportune sextile with Uranus, Venus, and Jupiter. Brilliant conversations and ideas are possible, so use this inquisitive energy for solutions to problems and for making new discoveries. I experienced these gifts for deep and interesting conversation at a dinner party on July 1, the first night of this alignment. Make the most of this opportunity early in the week with the company you keep and the conversations you spark.
It may be hard to move matters along Tuesday morning, as the Moon is Void-of-Course in Pisces until 9:37 AM PDT when it enters Aries, bringing on a new lunar cycle. Venus is pulling away from Jupiter and moving toward a square with Saturn, bringing more restraint and sobriety, particularly with finances. This alignment may also draw us toward dealing with relationship issues. Remember that this is an overheated week in the cosmos. So stay cool, and get yourself moving rather than allow yourself to be irritable and overly emotional.
Wednesday is a supercharged day full of edgy aspects. The day calls for liberation, empowerment, and initiative; but go slowly and carefully due to the extreme heat of the alignments. The Sun is in Cancer now tropically, shining light on home projects and family matters from now through July 22.
Thursday morning is another meandering time as the Moon is VoC again until 12:49 PM Pacific Time. Thursday afternoon through Saturday, the Moon is exalted in Taurus, highlighting all things beautiful and sensual! This exalted Moon offers its glory to the memorial celebration our Metzner family will be having for sweet Susie.
Friday is a lovely, agreeable, pleasant day. The Moon is in Fixed Earth Taurus, a grounded energy that enables us to get a lot accomplished—and to enjoy the work.
Saturday may be an irritable, unsatisfying, and emotionally constraining day. The evening will be lighter when the Moon moves into the friendly, flexible air sign Gemini. So, chill out in the evening.
Sunday is a day for curiosity and exploration rather than focus. Take a family road trip just for fun to explore something new. A Sun-Uranus square may deliver a surprise.
The Week in Short:
Sunday: Clean up after the partying and relax into a soft, serene, and inspiring day.
Monday: Step into your power and engage in amazing conversations.
Tuesday: Slow, meandering morning start. Then move forward with vigor, being careful not to overheat.
Wednesday: Supercharged day! Get moving—carefully.
Thursday: Day meanders with Moon VoC until 12:49 PM PDT. The afternoon is good for meetings and definition or decision. Enjoy a delicious dinner.
Friday: A lovely, agreeable, pleasant day to get a lot accomplished.
Saturday: Do your chores early in the day and enjoy conversation and camaraderie in the evening.
Sunday: Energy scattered, yet curious. Take a local trip to explore something new.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
