In the Stars January 10-17, 2016…shining light on the astrology of the week

Mercury is now in retrograde motion until January 26. While we often experience communication glitches and mechanical breakdowns during this time, the retrograde motion offers opportunities to review, revise, and re-think. Take advantage of this period for renewal, and re-examine and re-work your projects and plans. This week has two full days when the Moon is Void of Course—both Tuesday and Thursday; additionally, there is a long VoC period on Saturday from 3:26 PM to 9:48 PM. The Moon is VoC when it is unaspected, and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign. During this period it is difficult for good decisions to be made, and definitive actions are usually compromised. During these periods it is best to handle routine tasks that do not require definitive decisions. VoC Moon periods at home are good times to clean, cook, garden, or cook. VoC Moon periods at the office are good times to file papers, tidy your office, or catch up on things that need to be read. Plan this week carefully. Action days for meetings and decisions are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Enjoy a leisurely Sunday brunch while the Moon is VoC. At 12:23 PM PST the Moon enters Aquarius tropically. Tempers could be short, so avoid confrontations. Take some space for yourself in the evening, and plan your week ahead. Address the intentions you set for the new lunar cycle marked by the New Moon.

Monday is a relatively carefree day with the Moon in friendly Aquarius. The Moon makes benefic sextiles to Saturn, Venus, and Uranus. Look out for opportunities, and be ready to take advantage of them.

Tuesday’s great offering is an exact Venus-Uranus trine. This could show up as sudden good fortune, especially regarding love or money. The Moon is Void of Course almost all day until it moves into Pisces at 3:53 PM PST.  Handle routine tasks during the VoC Moon, and don’t waste time in meetings or activities calling for decisions. Tuesday evening is sweet and dreamy. Enjoy a soak in a hot bath and mediate on your intentions for this new year. Tuesday evening through Thursday the Moon is in Pisces, the sign that symbolizes imagination and creativity.

Wednesday is loaded with aspects that translate into activity. The Sun trines Jupiter, making it an expansive, buoyant day. Dream big! This is a day pregnant with opportunities and challenges. Get moving, and make this day one that counts.

The Moon is VoC again nearly all day Thursday. This is another day for routine tasks that do not require decision making about purchases, events, or anything else.  This day’s confusion is amplified by the Sun conjunct Mercury retrograde. Don’t expect a lot of definition to emerge. Relax, as Friday is bold and dynamic. Friday’s Aries Moon rumbles with the Uranus-Pluto square, and is a call to action.  The Uranus-Pluto square continues to urge us toward big changes, and when it combines with a cardinal Moon, such as this one in Aries, the pulse for change is especially strong.

The Aries Moon trines Venus Saturday morning and calls for a nourishing adventure. How about a morning hike, followed by breakfast or lunch with a beautiful view? Make the most of this active day until the Moon goes Voc at 3:26 PM PST. Then take it easy the rest of the day and evening.

A Moon-Mars opposition Sunday morning calls for physical activity, so why not take another vigorous weekend hike? The Taurus Moon draws us toward all things sensual. After a beautiful walk in nature, nourish and uplift yourself such as through delicious food, a clean home, and inspiring music.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Take it easy Sunday morning. Go easy. Take space for yourself in the evening and plan the week ahead.

Monday: Look for opportunities and take advantage of them.

Tuesday: Good fortune with love or money. Moon VoC until 3:53 PM PST.  Handle routine tasks and avoid activities calling for decisions.

Wednesday: Active, expansive day. Opportunities and challenges abound. Make this day count!

Thursday: Confusing day with a Moon VoC.  Best to go easy, expect little, and prepare for a dynamic Friday.

Friday: Bold, dynamic day. Strong current urging change.

Saturday: Active day that calls for adventure. Relax after 3:26 PM PST.

Sunday: Start the day with vigorous physical activity, and then pleasure your senses.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
