In the Stars December 18-25, 2016…shining light of the astrology of the week: Christmas and Hannukah

This week on Christmas Day five planets line up at exactly 20 degrees: Jupiter in Libra; Saturn in Sagittarius; Venus in Capricorn; Chiron in Pisces, and Uranus in Aries (opposite Jupiter). This is an extremely potent arc of planets that form both benefic and challenging aspects. If you have any planets between 17 and 23 degrees, you will likely feel the push for change. Monumental change and surprising breakthroughs and opportunities are possible through the power of these aspects. With Saturn in the mix we can make change responsibly, and with integrity. We can also use it to set new goals that stretch us.  Mercury goes retrograde until January 8. These three weeks give us opportunities to reconsider, re-think, re-work, and re-negotiate. Check documents, appointments, and connections at least twice, and exercise patience and understanding with mix-ups.

If you hosted a holiday party Saturday evening, Sunday’s Virgo Moon will help with clean-up. If you don’t have clean-up to do, you can get a jump start on planning the week ahead, and attend to a lot of things that need to be done. The Moon in mutable earth (Virgo) will be with us the next three days, and will help us efficiently power through our holiday preparations.

Mercury goes retrograde on Monday until January 8. When a planet stations, the energy of that planet is amplified. Mercury symbolizes communication, movement, and travel. There could be a number of issues with travel plans this holiday, besides delays due to weather with this week’s extreme cold. Exercise patience. Mars enter Pisces, a sign where it does not function at its best. Mars has a hard time getting traction; let intuition be your guide. With the big alignments at play that symbolize change, and Mercury retrograde, re-consider plans and directions this week, both large and small. Monday is full of aspects and energy. Expect it to be a pivotal day where you can get some things accomplished, but it will not all go as planned. However, the organized Virgo Moon will help to sort out and ground the disparate energy of the day.

Tuesday we get yet another day of the productive, organized Virgo Moon. This is the last day of the sunny Sagittarius Sun, and the end of the autumn season. Make the most of this day by taking care of tasks and details.

Winter Solstice arrives Wednesday, and a new season begins–winter. Cardinal, action-oriented signs mark the beginning of seasons, followed by fixed, and then mutable signs. This rhythm invites us to act and initiate with the first sign of this season, in this case, Capricorn. The second month of the season, Aquarius in this sequence, calls for solidifying what we set in motion the first month. Then follows the third month of completion, Pisces, in preparation for new beginnings. This day marks the beginning of a month to act on plans, and set things in motion for the winter quarter ahead, utilizing Mercury retrograde to reflect and redirect, if necessary.

Thursday’s Moon-Jupiter conjuction opposes Uranus. Drums roll to boost energy for expansive, surprising opportunities! Focus your expansive energy in the morning before the Moon goes Void of Course mid-day at 11:31 AM PDT. Pause and reflect in the afternoon, and don’t waste your time on meetings, or trying to make connections.

Two days before Christmas on Friday a Scorpio Moon draws us inward. With the Sun in taciturn Capricorn, and the Moon in brooding Scorpio, we will turn to more serious concerns. Mars is moving close to the South Node. Emotions will run strong, so be extra conscious of expressing deep feelings during these holidays. Take your space and keep your cool.

The Saturn-Uranus trine, a major aspect, is exact on Saturday, December 24. This alignment encourages us to work toward new goals that manifest opportunities that push boundaries. Be reasonable and responsible in holiday festivities.

Christmas Day, and Hannukah are Sunday, making it a special day, in addition to the powerful arc of planets, as noted above. A near exact “Thank the Lord” Jupiter-Uranus opposition holds three benefic sextiles within it (Jupiter sextile Saturn; Saturn sextile Venus; Venus sextile Uranus)–all at at 20 degrees. Some people are going to get some big gifts for Christmas. On the other hand, Mars is moving in close aspect to the Nodes from December 23-January 2. Mars will conjunct the South Node (known as Ketu in Vedic astrology) and oppose the North Node (known as Rahu in Vedic Astrology. This pattern is volatile. Enjoy the the day, and the holidays that follow with simple activities far from the maddening crowds.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Clean up and power through your tasks.

Monday: Mercury retrograde. Lots of activity. Get your jobs done, but flow with the mix-ups.

Tuesday: Productive day. End of the autumn season.

Wednesday: Winter solstice. Beginning of winter. Set intentions for the next three months.

Thursday: Surprises. Suspend work and judgment at 11:31 AM

Friday: Serious day. Emotions run strong. Take your space and keep your cool.

Saturday: Emotions run high, again on Saturday. Opportunities to expand limits, and reach for the stars.

Sunday: Big, powerful aspects. Strong benefic energy, but volatility. Navigate the day carefully and responsibly.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.

One Response to In the Stars December 18-25, 2016…shining light of the astrology of the week: Christmas and Hannukah

  1. Joseph John Lang, Ph.D. says:

Very, very interesting week! I am amazed at the politics: Obama claiming that the Russians caused the results of the elections in the USA and that doing so is as serious as 9/11! The country has seemed to become a nut-house, and my views of Obama keep sinking as he and the Democrats prove to be the sorest losers in U.S. history! And the CIA interactions with Obama, too — Donald Trump’s response was exactly the word I used as I heard about this — “Ridiculous”! Just amazing what Americans now receive as “news”!

The CIA was created during the Truman Administration, and it was designed only to be a temporary creation. I read a ton of books about it, as it recruits for psychologists and I inquired about a decade ago thinking I might be interested in a job with that organization. As I read in some depth I became more and more greatly concerned about this organization. Its budget is buried, deliberately, in so many U.S. Government departments that not even the President is able to know what the budget is and where it is all enmeshed. There are many more facts as disturbing about it, and no one has even hinted that it will be dissolved according to the principles enunciated in its creation. And now we see that it (CIA) can be used as a “patsy” for the President if that is what he wants. We also have Homeland Security, and this organization is equally as puzzling when looked at as a whole.

It seems that prayers are about all we have left in solving the problems of the government of the USA!
