In the Stars August 2-9, 2015…shining light on the astrology of the week

Saturn has just turns direct on Saturday night PDT/Sunday morning EDT after five months in retrograde motion. Saturn’s shift in direction closely followed the shifts of Venus and Uranus to retrograde motion. All this constitutes and unusually large wave of planetary energy changing direction in our solar system. When planets change directions, their energies are amplified. Saturn is moving forward, finishing the last few degrees of Scorpio, toward its arrival tropically in Sagittarius on September 17. We may now move forward with our goals and aspirations, pruning some obligations, activities, or relationships that no longer serve us well.

Jupiter is completing its 13-month journey through Leo and will enter the sign of Virgo tropically on August 11. Leo is dynamic and exuberant, the sign that symbolizes celebrities. In these last few degrees of Jupiter’s journey through Leo—and square to Saturn–one big news story has been Bruce Jenner’s gender transformation. As Jupiter shifts into Virgo soon, there may be more discernment around idealizations, and an increased interest in service over glamour.

Saturday, August 1, is a dynamic day full of varied aspects. Moon-Jupiter and Moon-Venus oppositions are exuberant and expansive. A Moon-Saturn-Jupiter fixed T-square (with stationary Saturn in the middle) in the morning through mid-day turns up the tension. A lot is at play. Make this an awesome day, noting the combined gifts of exuberance and surprise coupled with responsibility and restraint. Saturday will be the 45th Class Reunion of my Chillicothe High School Class of 1970, and I know it will be an awesome reunion.

Sunday is a soft, sweet, inspiring day. A Mercury-Uranus trine emboldens thoughts and ideas. Set up energizing and imaginative conversations by planning to spend time with others.

The pressure mounts on Monday to expand limits, limit expansion, or just be realistic about our goals and desires (Jupiter square Saturn exactly). A grand water trine through the middle of the day softens rough edges. The Moon is Void of Course from 1:35-4:24 PM PDT, so relax during these last few hours of the Moon’s transit in Pisces. Tune into your heightened feelings and pay attention to the messages from beyond ordinary reality. When the Moon moves into Aries in the evening conjoined the South Node, we’ll begin to feel excited about moving forward with re-energized lives.

Tuesday and most of Wednesday the Moon is in fiery “Let’s Get Going” Aries. Jupiter and Venus are exactly conjunct at 28 Leo. Both planets are considered benefic and generally deliver pleasure and delight. However, from a Vedic standpoint, when they are exactly conjunct they are at war as they are “enemy” planets to each other, something like two beautiful, but jealous, women competing to realize their desires. The Moon squares Pluto in the afternoon, fueling deep emotions and pushing for change. The day may deliver both angst and expansive opportunity. Get moving and make things happen and sprinkle it with delight along the way. Yet temper your eagerness with caution about not pushing too hard, too fast. Moderation in all things.

Wednesday is a dynamic day whose central theme is a reality check on relationships and finances triggered by Venus-square-Saturn. This aspect may create circumstances for serious discussions about relational differences or dissimilar values. Yet, in the late afternoon and evening, pleasurable trines from the Moon to both Jupiter and Venus ease earlier tensions and set the stage for a delightful evening. The Moon is VoC for two hours between 4:29 and 6:29, and then the Moon moves into its sign of exaltation, Taurus, where it dresses the evening in sweetness and beauty.

The Moon continues to exalt in gorgeous Taurus on Thursday and Friday and call up all things sensual. However, Thursday also holds an edgy Mercury-Saturn square that can increase tension and cause problems in communication. Fortunately, problems that arise can be easily resolved with the aid of a Mars-Saturn trine. Listen deeply. Honor others’ expressed needs.

On Friday, Mercury joins Jupiter and enters mutable earth Virgo, bringing our focus to routine tasks and practical matters. A lunar opposition to Saturn in the evening draws us yet again this week into dealing with reality and limitations.

Saturday and Sunday the Moon is in curious Gemini. Get in touch with relatives, particularly your siblings. Take a short trip to explore something new. Mars moves into Leo tropically for the next seven weeks, a much more invigorating and arousing expression than its journey has been through Cancer. Sunday is an easy, flowing sociable day of discovery and opportunity.

The Week in Short:
Saturday: Bold, dynamic day. Saturn stations. Exercise caution and responsibility while experiencing expansive connections and joy.
Sunday: Inspiring day. Engage in imaginative conversations.
Monday: Be realistic about goals and reality. Relax in the afternoon while the Moon is VoC. Get moving in the evening when the Moon enters Aries.
Tuesday: Both angst and opportunity abound. Keep moving and make things happen.
Wednesday: Time for a reality check on relationships and finances. Pleasant, delightful evening.
Thursday: Tensions may rise—and be resolved. Listen deeply to others’ needs.
Friday: Face fears and limitations while tending to practical matters.
Saturday: Reach out to siblings and neighbors and have a sociable evening.
Sunday: Easy day—be curious and open to discovery and opportunity.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.

  1. Joseph John Lang, Ph.D. says:

It’s just been very interesting to me that in the past few weeks I have kept meeting and being involved with Leo people. These Leo’s have been for the most part helpful and encouraging to me. Like most Leo’s I’ve ever met, these people “think big,” have very good (and expensive) tastes, and think “Let’s go for it.”

They remind me of my Leo maternal grandmother, who was a second mother to me in my earliest formative years. She could maintain optimism amidst circumstances that would completely knock other people out, and though she had to work with very limited finances even after inheriting her father’s extensive properties, she would hold onto her purse, watch and watch for certain expensive and luxurious products, and get hold of them. For her the sun could always shine no matter how dark the affairs in life. I found her an inspiration as long as she lived, and I still do. While Leo’s can be power-grabbing and flaunting what they think their talents and possessions do for them, my grandmother showed how wonderful the energy of the Lion really can be. Unfortunately, I have lost a natal chart of hers that my mother gave to me quite a few years ago, but I hope to get a new one somehow and to study it for hints to mastering even the hardest affairs in life with dignity and faith.

I had adopted many of her “ways of handling things” as a child and young adult, and I find myself in many of the circumstances that were unique in her life, it seems. The Jupiter in Leo must have helped me in the past few weeks acquire a very expensive and “flashy” truck I’d been paying on. I kept telling people I didn’t want “cheap junk,” and when I told the finance company I could not keep paying on the expensive vehicle, the company made a decision simply to write off the rest of the financing and “give” me the vehicle! A new Leo friend was amazed at the vehicle, though he has a new Mercedes even though he finds that his career in a very unusual field of experimental psychology does not pay him. He asserts that he is working on being a millionaire. He rides a bicycle much of the time, as he comes from The Netherlands and is used to doing so. I trust that he will acquire the money he wants and make good use of it for others. Leo’s can be, as one reads in popular notes, very “generous.” I have found this to be true. Many of them love to share their talents by teaching others.
