In the Stars August 16-23, 2015…shining light on the astrology of the week

This is the last week of the Sun in Leo. It’s time to complete the summer vacation fun and get ready to go back to school, work, and routine as the Sun rolls into the sign of Virgo tropically the next week. Saturn is finishing the last few degrees of Scorpio and moving toward its arrival in Sagittarius on September 17. Continue to move forward with your goals and aspirations, pruning some obligations, activities, or relationships that no longer serve you well. Wednesday is the most sparkling day this week, full of opportunity and surprise. Be gregarious and open to making new friends, and make the most of the mid-week serendipity.

We’ve been blessed with a Virgo Moon weekend. Sunday is a Virgo Moon day to work efficiently through our tasks, clean house, and put our lives in order.

Continue to use the last degrees of the Virgo Moon on Monday morning to get organized for the week ahead. Then take a pause at mid-day when the Moon is VoC (10:16 AM-1:23 PM PDT). Tidy up, but don’t try to make anything definitive happen until the Moon moves forward into the sign of Libra tropically after 1:23 PM PDT. Now that your space is clean and organized, you can beautify it with the energies of Libra. Set the table for a beautiful and pleasurable dinner with your loved ones or good friends.

Although the Libra Moon symbolizes peace and harmony (and surely a desire for that is stirred!), the Moon opposes Pluto on Tuesday: Our feelings are agitated. Be careful, and tune into what your ruffled emotions are revealing to you.

Wednesday sparkles with possibility from the Venus-Uranus trine in fire signs. The Libra Moon serves as a romantic backdrop for making new friends, re-discovering delight within a current relationship, or perhaps meeting a new love. This magical Venus-Uranus aspect may open a door to a delightful discovery, so be curious and gregarious and make things happen with matters of love and money.

From Thursday through Saturday mid-day, the Moon is in Scorpio. During the Moon’s stay in Scorpio, we want to draw inward. Feelings run deep. Resentments and unfinished emotional business may be stirred up. Thursday is somewhat edgy; Friday is a seriously moody and touchy day; and Saturday may be emotionally strained by the Moon-Saturn conjunction. During these days as the Moon traverses the deep waters in Scorpio, take more time for self-reflection, meditation, and self-care. If you have a difficult road, you have to drive more slowly and carefully.

After the Moon’s limiting encounter with Saturn–then its short VoC period mid-day Saturday (12:31-1:41 PM PDT)–the Moon bounces into sunny Sagittarius in the afternoon for a spirited jaunt through Monday evening. The Sag Moon is always a good backdrop for a party, and lunar aspects to Jupiter on Saturday evening and to Mars and Venus Sunday evening certainly call for sharing the Sag Moon’s optimism and good cheer with others. The Sag Moon also beckons us toward adventure and exploration. So pack a bag lunch for a hike, or plan your next long-distance trip. Sunday the Sun moves into Virgo tropically, ushering in a month ahead for self-improvement and putting more order in your life.

The Week in Short:
Sunday: Clean house, get organized, and power through mundane tasks.
Monday: Tidy up in the morning and get organized for the week; then beautify your home and create a beautiful, leisurely evening.
Tuesday: Turbulent, edgy, active day.
Wednesday: Sparkling day for making new friends or starting a romance or making a desirable purchase.
Thursday: Edgy day. Draw inward; feelings run deep.
Friday: Touchy day
Saturday: Emotionally restrictive morning; the evening calls for a party.
Sunday: Call to adventure and exploration.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.

  1. Joseph John Lang, Ph.D. says:

I didn’t get to your e-mail until Monday (Sunday “night” spilled over by a long shot). I found it interesting what you had to recommend about the Moon in Virgo, etc.. I spent over eight hours of Sunday and Monday a.m. with a friend I met in a bank here in Tempe, AZ, a European man who is most interesting, from The Netherlands with a wife from the Ukraine. At any rate, the man is a natal Pisces. He has an incredible work ethic, and I’ve seldom seen anyone delve so deeply into tasks to complete them, no matter what the consequences. I had told him my house was badly messed up and in need of much work indoors, so he (Hans) came on a bicycle (in out temperature of about 118) and worked solidly for over eight hours. This was rare for me, as I have had plenty of friends who are quick to visit in order to party but never to put the house in order (heavy and demanding work). I don’t know his chart, but I kept thinking of him almost as a Virgo. Well, good for me that the Virgo Moon was helping the cause!
