In the Stars September 24-October 1, 2017…shining light on the astrology of the week

With the arrival of the Autumnal Equinox a few days ago, the Sun has shifted into Libra tropically. The Vintage Festival is this weekend in Sonoma, marking the seasonal shift when we harvest summer bounty and convert it to new wine, something that will age well over time. Libra symbolizes relationships, grace, and beauty. After you cleaned and organized with the Sun’s transit through Virgo, it is now time to make your space more beautiful and inviting.

The week ahead is inventive, bold, and powerful. One big gift of the planetary gods is the mid-week Jupiter-Uranus opposition. This enables us to stretch our limits, go beyond our boundaries, and to seize big, bold opportunities. Breakthroughs are possible. Expect miracles, or at least surprising, generous gifts. Pluto turns direct on Thursday, magnifying its qualities of depth, power, and transformation. Pluto in its fury can also be destructive, but destruction often precedes rebuilding and transformation. Use the powerful energy this week to stretch beyond your comfort zones, embrace new ideas, and set powerful goals and ambitions in motion with enthusiasm, determination, and hard work.

We do not know what to expect on Sunday, with the Moon Void of Course (newer readers can refer to the paragraph appended below if they need a review of what this means) all day and evening in Scorpio. Our energy is further compromised by a Mars-Neptune opposition that clouds the potential of the day. Sunday is made for gardening, reading, or walking in beauty. Leave the day open to the unknown.

Monday is an edgy, provocative day, pressured by Mercury square Saturn, and three squares to the Moon. Square aspects are often challenging, calling for the balance of different tensions or needs. However, square aspects spur action. Thus, we can expect an active, perhaps challenging day. The optimism and buoyancy of the Sagittarius Moon will give us perspective, and will see us through toward positive resolutions.

The unsettled energy of Monday continues into Tuesday, crowned by a Moon-Saturn conjunction that calls for facing reality and matters that need attention. The Sagittarius Moon continues to deliver vision and insight, and a Mars-Pallas Athena trine gives confidence and drive to meet the challenges before us. Begin to address Wednesday morning’s needs on Tuesday evening, laying out your clothes and packing your brief case. The Moon is Void of Course Wednesday morning, and you will need the extra help that planning ahead affords.

Wednesday morning the Moon is Void of Course until 9:24 a.m. PDT, when the Moon moves into cardinal, action-oriented Capricorn. Although the day starts slowly, things will then begin to take form. The industrious, goal-oriented Capricorn Moon is with us for three days until Friday evening. A great deal can be accomplished during this time. On the heels of benefic lunar aspects with Jupiter and Uranus is the big gift of the day: the last exact opposition of Jupiter and Uranus. This combination calls for and delivers big, bold steps of action. Be brilliant and inventive, and reach beyond your usual boundaries and comfort zones. Expect breakthrough, discoveries, and perhaps miracles! While Jupiter and Uranus are exactly conjunct on Wednesday, the juice of this aspect influences the entire week.

Thursday is a powerful, ambitious day. The big event is Pluto turning direct in motion after a 6-month spin in retrograde motion since March 21. When planets change direction their symbolic energy is stronger. Pluto symbolizes power, deep psychological and mystical insight, destruction, volatility, and transformation. We know the world is on edge with the devastation from recent hurricanes and earthquakes. Politicians threaten war and the destruction of the health insurance system…yet again. This change in motion of Pluto may be a tipping point of more devastation. In our own lives, the invitation is to let go of what no longer serves us, and to bring forth powerful, positive action from deep insight. Punctuating Pluto’s change in direction, the Moon conjoins Pluto, and makes benefic aspects to Venus, Neptune, and Mars earlier in the day. This day is a whopper! Make the most of it in ways that make for big impact. Be determined to “do the right thing” in the face of political lunacy.

This dynamic work week ends with another productive day on Friday. A Venus-Neptune opposition adds vision, inspiration, and possibility, even if starry-eyed. Mercury moves into Libra where we can expect gracious and kind words to be spoken for the next two weeks during its swift movement through this fair sign. The Moon is VoC Friday evening, so take it easy and do something different, such as dining at a new restaurant and trying new foods. Friday evening is staged for listening to live music, or taking in a well-chosen, inspiring movie.

Friendship is the weekend’s theme song, encouraged by the Moon in Aquarius Saturday and Sunday. A beautiful Sun-Moon trine gives us the feeling that all is well. A powerful Mars-Pluto trine on Sunday gives a big boost of willpower and ambition. In addition, a benefic sextile between the Moon and Saturn gives even more determination and focus. Give yourself the gift of a strong work-out or a vigorous hike. Join with friends on a collaborative work project. This is not a leisurely Sunday; rather it is one packed with brilliant thinking and productivity. After you have made the most of the day, enjoy an dinner of ethnic exploration, as Aquarius encourages us to embrace diversity and other cultures. Aquarius also heightens global concerns. Make another donation to one of the perilous places in the world where there has been a recent disaster.

While we focus on the meaning and potential of planetary patterns in our lives, it is interesting to note the influences the planetary patterns have on geological and scientific events. Last month’s solar eclipse wasn’t just a beautiful natural phenomenon to observe, it also had an interesting effect on solar panels across America! This is the story and graphs corresponding to the eclipse.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Leave the day open to the unknown. Moon VoC all day. Read, garden, or walk in beauty.

Monday: Edgy, provocative day, but optimism will help with the challenges.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
