In the Stars November 17-24, 2019…shining light on the astrology of the week

Several planets make shifts this week. Mars moves into Scorpio tropically on Monday. Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio, so it is strong in this sign. Mars in Scorpio is ambitious, focused, and driven, and much can be accomplished while it is in this sign through January 3rd. Mercury turns direct on November 20th, Communication will begin to clear, though Mercury will be in its shadow phase through December 7, so until then there will still be some of the Mercury communication issues in effect. The Sun moves into sunny Sagittarius on Thursday, November 21. All will seem much brighter and more hopeful. Get ready to party!

After a comfortable, homey Sunday morning, there is a short void Moon period from 12:14 p.m. – 1:57 p.m., and then the Moon bounces into playful Leo. Afternoon and evening energies are edgy and irritable, though energized and creative as the Moon squares Mars and Uranus. These can be reckless aspects, so slow down and be mindful with words and action.

Start the week off with vigorous exercise and exuberance. The Leo Moon loves creativity, play, and children. Make it a fun day! Mars moves into the sign of Scorpio on Monday. Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio, so it is especially strong in this sign where it resides through January 3rd. We move toward what we desire with confidence.

Make the most of a sunny, energetic morning on Tuesday. Downshift at 1:11 p.m. PST when the Moon makes its last aspect and becomes void of course, until 5:54 p.m. PST when it moves into Virgo. During the time when the Moon is void focus on routine tasks, and don’t waste your time on meetings or decisions that will likely seem unsatisfactory later. The evening hours are energized by a benefic Moon-Mars aspect which compels us to complete the tasks of the day.

Mercury goes direct on Wednesday, so communication will start to clear. If you have been waiting to sign contracts (which is best when Mercury is retrograde), then now you can commit to agreements and closure, though it might be even better to wait until Mercury is out of its shadow period December 7th. The Moon is in Virgo, the mutable earth sign that calls us to clean up and get organized. This is a busy day, with the Moon making numerous positive aspects to inner and outer planets. Make this day count; dig in and get a lot accomplished.

Thursday is another day framed for getting organized, though it holds some challenging energy. We may overextend ourselves and feel stressed. Just do what you can do, and don’t fret over what can’t be done. You can relax later in the evening when the Moon moves into Libra.

The Sun moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius early Friday morning. Hopefully you have experienced adequate solitude while the Sun was in Scorpio, as now it’s time to party. Get your dancing shoes on! The Moon is in Libra. Make Friday evening glorious, elegant, and satisfying.

Saturday is the day of this week that the Moon makes an edgy alignment with Saturn and Pluto. While we are pushed out of our comfort zones, we can lean into our work and be more mindful of our relationships. Challenge yourself to work hard during the day, and then catch the good energies of benefic planets for a divine evening. Plan on fine dining Saturday evening with people who uplift you.

Sunday is full of planetary alignments, some easy and delightful, and others edgy and challenging, making for an active day full of potential. I’ll be lecturing early that morning at the Vedic astrology conference in Sedona, Arizona on the Nakshatras, a system of 27 divisions of the Moon, and their symbolic meanings. A Venus-Jupiter conjunction fills us with hope and excitement about the coming holidays. A Mars-Uranus opposition pushes us toward something new and exciting; it can also be impulsive and reckless, so slow down, and be careful and thoughtful.

The Moon is void of course all day Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. PST. After a strong and determined start, focus on routine tasks, and don’t waste time on meetings and activities requiring decisions. Venus moves into Saturn-ruled Capricorn for the next month through December 20th. This may help us curb our holiday spending, and attune to reasonable limits.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
