In the Stars March 31-April 7, 2019…shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon

The Sun now shines in Aries, where it is exalted, or highest functioning. The Aries zodiacal month encourages new beginnings. It is the season for spring cleaning and fresh starts. Solar Aries symbolizes passion, warmth, excitement, zest for adventure. Mercury turned direct on Thursday, March 28, although it remains in its shadow until April 16th. This means that although Mercury is now direct, it still carries some of the effects of Mercury retrograde until April 16th. We can still expect to experience some communication and mechanical breakdowns through April 16th. So be patient with mix-ups which may be opportunities to revise, re-view, or re-configure. The South Node conjuncts Pluto, a major aspect symbolizing completions, transformations, endings, and new beginnings.

Sunday is blessed by a benefic Moon-Jupiter sextile in the freedom signs of the Zodiac, Aquarius and Sagittarius. Sunday is a great day to gather with good friends and community.

Expect to encounter illusion, mystery, and surprise on Monday and Tuesday. The Moon is in Pisces, expanding our imagination and vision, and lifting us out of practical reality into ideal worlds. Look for the poetic and the magical in Monday’s and Tuesday’s offerings. The cosmic alignment Uranus-sextile-Moon is perfect for Monday, April Fool’s Day, as it may bring a few practical jokes and surprises. Mercury is nearly conjunct Neptune, exact tomorrow, On Tuesday, dreams states are enhanced in both our sleeping and waking consciousness. On Tuesday a benefic Moon-Saturn sextile helps us ground our imaginative ideas into practical reality.

The Moon is void of course all day on Wednesday from 8:36 a.m. through 7:56 p.m. PDT. Lower your expectations for things to get done, and don’t expect a lot to happen today. You may feel pulled in many directions, and overextended. Stick to insignificant tasks. Allow yourself to dream, work in your garden, or just pull back from the demanding world and read a book.

The South Node conjuncts Pluto, the planet symbolizing transformation, on Thursday. This South Node/Pluto alignment could signal endings and transformations. Keep your heart open, and surrender to change. The Moon is in bold, courageous Aries on Thursday and Friday, but it is dark on Thursday and Friday before coming into an exact conjunction with the Sun, signaling a New Moon at 15 Aries. Draw inward, as the lunar cycle comes to a close. This New Moon is potent—and serious. Saturn, the South Node, and Pluto square this New Moon. Although Aries, sign of the Sun and Moon, is about quick, fiery, courageous action, the square from Saturn, the South Node, and Pluto is a force to reckon with, and may result in delays and challenges to forward, and possibly impatient movement. Things may not happen at the pace we anticipate, and we may have to deal first with some challenges that delay. Friday’s New Moon is the first New Moon of the annual zodiacal cycle. It is ripe with potential for fiery, excited, initiating motion; yet it is in check by Saturn and Pluto. Forward motion now requires thoughtful intention and attention, and meeting the challenges that occur. A blessed Moon-Jupiter trine, though, showers a spirit of optimism and a sense that all is well.

Saturday through Monday afternoon the Moon is in sensual Taurus. On Saturday the Moon conjuncts Uranus, meaning just about anything surprising could happen. Expect a good surprise! Taurus symbolizes all things sensual, and plants and gardening. One way you could activate this energy would be to revision your garden, and shop at a nursery for unusual plants or garden objects.

Sunday’s major aspect, Mercury sextile Saturn,  syncs our thoughts with reality, and we can write and communicate responsibly, and with attention to what needs to be said. The Taurus Moon makes at least four other benefic aspects with planets, making this a day for fortuitous realizations. Taurus is an earth sign, and actions will be sensual and grounded, and due to the positive aspects, they will be good. Sunday is a splendid day for manifestation. Plan well for Monday, as the Moon is void of course for a long period Monday morning and early afternoon.

Monday the Moon is void of course from 1:26 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. PDT. Don’t be surprised if you have a slow start Monday morning. Stick to routine tasks until 2:15 p.m. PDT when the Moon moves into Gemini. Then, make phone calls, connect, and communicate.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
