In the Stars June 28 – July 5, 2020…shining light on the astrology of the week: Lunar Eclipse

The third of the three summer eclipses occurs on Saturday, July 4th, at 9:44 p.m. PDT, this one being a Full Moon penumbral (partial) Lunar Eclipse at 13:38 degrees Capricorn. We are well into the solar month of Cancer in which the focus is on home, family, tradition, and issues of security. Eclipses are power surges; consider how you will honor the powerful energy this week between two eclipses. Go slow and easy, and get adequate rest. Five planets and asteroid Pallas Athena are retrograde: Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter, and Neptune (as of Monday, June 22nd).

When Mercury is in retrograde it is a good time to review, re-think, reconsider, and re-construct. Communication is sometimes confused, so be patient with mix-ups. Don’t be surprised if you experience mechanical breakdowns. It is difficult to move forward, and probably best not to try to, at least until we get through eclipse season and Mercury returns to direct motion. Go carefully and consciously this week. Continue to light candles for racial equality and humane treatment of all people, and shine your light on the world.

Sunday’s opportune Mars-Saturn sextile steadies the waters and draws us toward our responsibilities. Strong exercise is encouraged by this alignment. This energy is helpful in navigating the Moon’s unsettling squares to the Sun and Mercury which may bring up issues in family relationships. With the Moon in Libra, make sure that an appreciation of beauty is part of your day.

Monday is a stormy day, that day of the week when the Moon squares off with Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn, creating turbulence. Jupiter and Pluto form an exact, powerful conjunction in retrograde motion. The Moon is void of course all day until 3:48 p.m. PDT when it submerges into the deep, murky waters of Scorpio. It may be difficult to move into the week’s work. Handle routine tasks, and don’t press forward on issues that may be stuck or resistant.

Tuesday’s cosmic energy makes numerous exact alignments. The Sun and Mercury conjunct, and make opportune sextiles to Uranus, and all aspect the Scorpio Moon. This last day of June, the half-way point of the year, crackles with possibilities and new ideas. Chiron squares the Sun, perhaps raising questions about our identity. We may consider new ways of expressing our true self.

July begins on Wednesday, the hump day of the week that corresponds with Mercury and matters of learning and communicating. Saturn retrogrades back into Capricorn where it will be until December 16, 2020, inviting us to finish the business of this position inviting paring down to what is essential, restructuring our lives and our stuff, and getting our business affairs in good order. The Moon makes numerous benefic aspects with Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, and Mars. This is a day for hard work and productivity. The day ends with a spark of joy, ignited by the Moon’s move into Sagittarius at 6:21 p.m. PDT.

Buoyed by the enthusiasm of Thursday’s Sag Moon, we will want to finish our work week in preparation for the holiday weekend ahead. Pallas Athena and Pluto conjunct exactly, giving strength and focus to the day’s challenges and opportunities. The Moon trines Chiron, drawing in themes of education and travel, at least through the mind. Get some vigorous exercise, and make it a good day.

Start the holiday weekend on Friday. The Moon is void of course all day until 9:48 p.m. PDT, so nothing important is likely to happen. This is not a day for meetings, connections, or decisions. Rather, use it for visiting relatives, gardening, or cooking for weekend celebrations. This would have been my mother’s 90th birthday. I’ve invited my extended family to a Zoom call to toast her joyful life.

Saturday the 4th of July, Independence Day, holds the third and final eclipse in this series, a Lunar Eclipse at 13:37 Capricorn-Cancer. Parades, public fireworks gatherings, and group celebrations are eclipsed by COVID-19. The eclipse influence will follow through the next year as it is present in America’s solar return chart. Celebrate this holiday with a quiet day at home, as the day’s aspects are challenging. Organize family photos, and cook your favorite summer foods.

A benefic Moon-Neptune sextile invites us into a soft, meditative Sunday morning, perfect for walking in nature, or soaking in beautiful music at a worship service. The Moon joins the powerful triple conjunction of Jupiter, Pluto, and asteroid Pallas Athena. You could move a mountain with this energy. Lean in and tackle something important and worthy of your serious intentions and industriousness.

On Monday we turn to friendships and humanitarian concerns with the Moon in Aquarius. Brilliant ideas, intention, and teamwork give good results.
