In the Stars July 23-30, 2017…shining light on the astrology of the week

We are less than one month away from the Total Solar Eclipse at 28:53 Leo that will traverse the United States from the Oregon Coast near Portland through Charleston, South Carolina. I’ve been in Northwest Missouri visiting family and friends where the eclipse path will be as it crosses through the Midwest, and excitement is building for viewing the eclipse. Eclipse events are impossible to predict, and they may occur up to three months before an eclipse or several months after. Perhaps you have already experienced some of the power of this eclipse. The first of two New Moons in Leo was on Sunday, July 23, at 0:44 degrees of Leo, the sign that symbolizes creativity, radiance, passion, and the heart. This is a new lunar month to be joyful, generous, and fired up to create. Paint your world with bright colors; dance to your favorite music. Take a leap forward with juicy projects and dreams. Be more generative and more generous, and to allow your inner light to shine brighter. Make courageous, creative commitments on this New Moon at the beginning of this week, and then at the Solar Eclipse on August 21 celebrate the progress, discoveries, and contributions that you have made.

The week begins with an action-packed planetary day on Monday. Among the mix is a brilliant Mercury-Uranus trine that fosters innovation, inspiration, and thinking out-of-the box. While this aspect is exact on Monday, its influence will be present all week. Another exact aspect on Monday, but active through the week, is a Venus-Saturn opposition, calling for limits on spending, and attending to finances such as paying bills, filing papers, and balancing accounts. The Venus-Saturn opposition demands attention on relationships. Honor and negotiate the limitations and sensitivities of close relationships. The fiery, exuberant Leo Moon is backdrop for these larger patterns, and it makes benefic aspects to Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. This is an overall sunny, playful, creative day. Appreciate your amazing life, and the people who are special to you.

Time to tidy-up on Tuesday and Wednesday with the Moon in Virgo. Attend to details and errands. Put things in their proper places and clean house. Virgo’s vibration attunes us to health, so fit exercise into your routine, and eat a lot of colorful fruits and vegetables. Mercury moves into its ruling sign Virgo on Tuesday. Mercury functions best in Virgo where it is skillful, organized, focused, and attentive to details. Focus on projects that need to be completed, especially so because Mercury goes retrograde on August 13. Complete travel plans, contracts, and communication in the next three weeks before the retrograde period begins. The Sun is conjunct Mars in fiery Leo, a bold combination that gives strength and courage. A Moon-Pluto trine gives additional power of conviction to get a job done, or express what is in your heart and on your mind.

Thursday flows with cooperation and ease. The congenial Libra Moon sextiles Mars and the Sun, offering balance and equilibrium as we move through the tasks of the day.

Friday is uplifted by a Moon-Jupiter conjunction, though this upbeat energy may be upset at the end of the day by a Moon-Pluto square. Stay positive as you deal with jagged edges; this combo may be a catalyst for change.

A Venus-Uranus sextile may color the weekend with a few surprising opportunities. A lot can be accomplished on Saturday until the Moon goes Void of Course at 2:30 PM PDT. Get your Saturday shopping and errands done before the Moon is VoC (2:30 PM-5:23 PM PDT). Then relax. The Moon moves into the deep waters of Scorpio from Saturday evening through Monday. Draw inward and take some time for reflection. The end of the weekend is softened by a dreamy Moon-Neptune sextile. Plan the week ahead, get to bed early, and catch some dreams.

Ten Things to Do with Venus in Gemini (July 5-August 26)

  1. Go to a library book sale or second-hand store and buy some books that lead you in new directions.
  2. Exercise flexibility in relationship.
  3. Energize your social life. It’s time for conversation and connection.
  4. Acknowledge the various expressions of love in your everyday life.
  5. Write letters.
  6. Take short trips to enjoy the beauty in your neighborhood.
  7. Visit a neighborhood art gallery or exhibit.
  8. Host a neighborhood gathering (e.g., a 4th of July BBQ).
  9. Connect with aunts, uncles, or cousins.
  10. Think (and act) more flexibly with money matters—learn something new by listening to a book on tape about finances (you can get it from your local library) while driving

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.

Well, I hope the Solar Eclipse is wonderful, exciting, and indicative of a new wave of a more positive life! But I doubt it. I sense it as symbolizing a sort of “dark foreboding.” I know kids like to “see if they can see” it and such, but if I look at it from quite a distance before, I have not “seen” the ease or joyfulness of it. Perhaps it’s just a matter of “intensity,” which would vary with how it manifests depending on the context of what’s already been going on in any individual or group’s life. Certainly “shadows” and “darkness” do not suggest any fun and games.

For me, it has been bringing a sense of “urgency” and feelings that I just “get things done” regarding the hard factors in my life. I am trying to stay patient and keep inquiring, studying, etc.. I see it as a matter of survival.

I had forgot about Mercury going retrograde. Yep. More going over things, trying to continue to be “patient,” and getting still more re-education about how to handle things.

I have some apprehension about the eclipse for the USA. There’s so much conflict, fake news and counter fake news, and real trouble with the national economy that is not being revealed, that I have concerns about clashes and breakdowns.

I don’t know anything about eclipses, really, but I recall reading about them, and when a major eclipse like the one we will experience right over the mainland of the USA happened over the Mideast, all Hell broke lose and has stayed a living Hell for a long period of time now.

I am trying to stay open-minded and to learn from how both the Lunar Eclipse coming right up on August 7th and the Solar Eclipse manifest.
