In the Stars January 6-13, 2019…shining light on the astrology of the week

The week ahead is cosmically framed for work, for powering through tasks and goals. Mercury has joined the work brigade in Capricorn, also including Sun, Saturn, and Pluto. On Friday, the 11th, the Sun aligns with powerful, transformative Pluto. If your New Year’s goals are not already firmly in place, the 11th would be a good day to lean into them.  Set strong intentions to get a lot accomplished in the week ahead, and get to work. The next two weeks are framed by eclipses, with a Total Lunar Eclipse coming on Sunday, January 20th at 0:52 Aquarius tropically. When in the midst of eclipse energy, keep things simple, and focus on your responsibilities. It is best not to start new projects, and keep good control of expenses.

Uranus stations direct on Sunday, January 6th, following the eclipse of yesterday, after a five-month retrograde spin back into late degrees of Aries. When planets station to turn direction their energy is amplified. Uranus symbolizes change, the unexpected, reversals, and awakenings. With this energy exaggerated, Sunday is a day open to surprise. The Moon conjuncts Pluto, a powerful alignment further expressing the potency of the eclipse on Saturday, January 5th.

On Monday Venus bounces into spirited Sagittarius, which will lighten Venus’ loving energy that has been harnessed by its lengthy, deep dive in Scorpio since September 9. The Aquarius Moon is in a friendly, uplifting sextile to Mars in Aries. With Venus, the Moon, and Mars in independent, freedom-loving signs, the grip of the eclipse loosens, and brings a breath of fresh air to the work week ahead.

The Moon aspects the four major asteroids on Tuesday. Luna conjuncts Vesta, goddess of the hearth in Aquarius. Vesta is a feminine Saturn archetype; this combination focuses us on putting order into the chaos of our lives. Moon-Vesta also makes square aspects to Juno, symbolizing relationships, especially the spouse, and also to Ceres, the goddess of nourishment. This combination is a T-square in fixed signs—powerful energy to address something that needs to change, especially having to do with nourishment and relationships. This would be a good day to commit to a more invigorating diet, or to address partnership issues. It is a call to clean up our acts. We get help to do so by the Moon-Vesta benefic trine to asteroid Pallas Athena, the warrior goddess of the arts, and of strategy. Pallas Athena can help us create better solutions to our challenges artfully and strategically.

A benefic Moon-Uranus sextile may shift your routine and bring something surprising on Wednesday morning. This Moon-Uranus aspect at 8:53 a.m. PST ushers in a void Moon period until 11:44 a.m. PST when the Moon moves into dreamy, inspiring Pisces. During this three-hour void Moon period, focus on routine tasks rather than meetings and activities involving decisions.

The Pisces Moon makes numerous aspects, both benefic and challenging on Thursday, against the backdrop of an intense Sun-Pluto conjunction. Be inspired, get grounded, and lean into your goals for change and transformation.

Friday is a day of extremely mixed energy. The Sun conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn, drawing us toward work, goals, and commitment to change. On the other hand, the Pisces Moon is void of course all day from 6:25 a.m. on into Saturday. The Pisces Moon is ethereal and spacey in itself. The Void of Course Pisces Moon is even more ethereal and spacey, not conducive to accomplishment. Put on some inspiring music, and stick to routine tasks. This would be a good day to put away your holiday decorations and clean your house or yard. Add some color with fresh flowers and a bright tablecloth or runner. Uplift your spirits.

Saturday is a super-charged, high energy day. The Moon is in cardinal (action-oriented) fire sign Aries. Adding fuel to the fire is Aries’ ruling planet Mars conjoining the Moon. Get some vigorous exercise. Sprint through your projects. Get things moving!

A Mercury-Saturn conjunction Sunday focuses our attention on serious matters, including our goals. A Jupiter-Neptune square draws us toward our ideals and dreams. At least five challenging aspects to the Aries Moon makes this an extremely active, and perhaps frustrating day. Keep moving—but be aware and be careful.

Monday morning is likely not to go as planned. Expect a surprising, meandering start. A Moon-Uranus conjunction at 7:56 a.m. PST begins a Moon void of course period until 10:31 a.m. PST when you can expect the day to get moving. Then the Moon shifts into grounded, fixed earth Taurus which will help you get a lot accomplished.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
