In the Stars December 1-8, 2019…shining light on the astrology of the week

The Sun continues to shine in sunny Sagittarius, and things look bright and hopeful. This first week of December is seemingly quiet on the planetary front, while at the same time Saturn is closing in on Pluto, growing toward their first exact powerful conjunction on January 12th.  Jupiter moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn tropically on Monday. In Sagittarius, Jupiter is strong in the sign it rules, while in Capricorn it is in its fall. However, from a sidereal/Vedic point of view Jupiter is in Sagittarius  and remains strong from that system’s viewpoint. Mars in Scorpio is ambitious, focused, and driven, and much can be accomplished while it is in this sign through January 3rd. Mercury is still in its shadow phase through December 7, so some of Mercury’s communication issues are still in effect for another week.

The Sun and Moon are aligned in a benefic sextile on Sunday between the freedom signs of the zodiac: Sagittarius and Aquarius. Sunday is Jupiter’s last day in Sagittarius tropically. This would be a good day for a hike or outdoor adventure, and later, a social gathering. Host an open house and invite diverse friends. Get your holiday sparkle on.

On Monday the Moon is void of course all day from 4:27 a.m. through 11:11 p.m. PST. Stick to routine, inconsequential tasks. Monday is not a good day for meetings and decisions, although Mercury is in a benefic sextile with Pluto, so it is a good day for deep, transformative thinking and problem solving. Jupiter moves into Capricorn where it will reside until December 19, 2020. Jupiter’s shift is significant, as it has moved out of the sign it rules, Sagittarius, tropically, where it is strong, and into the sign of its fall, Capricorn, where it is weak. It is time to be much more prudent and conservative with financial matters.

Tuesday and Wednesday are sweet, inspiring days. A benefic Venus-Mars sextile is exact on Tuesday, encouraging a tender exploration of relationships or working on a creative project. The sensitive, compassionate Pisces Moon makes benefic aspects to Uranus, Mars, and Venus, and just one edgy aspect to the Sun on Tuesday. On Wednesday the Moon conjuncts Neptune, while also making benefic sextiles to Saturn and Pluto. These are compassionate, glorious days to give and receive love, blessings, and illumination.

Thursday morning is dreamy and indefinite, as the Moon is void of course in Pisces until 11:44 a.m. PST, when the Moon bounces into Aries. The Moon makes tense squares to Jupiter and Chiron. We may feel overextended and insecure, yet energized and hopeful. Spring into action, and all that you accomplish will lift your spirits.

The Aries Moon aligns in a benefic trine with the Sagittarius Sun on Friday, giving an enthusiastic feeling that all is well—and exciting. This positive aspect helps to balance the insecurity of a Moon-Venus square. Essentially, it is a dynamic Friday. Enjoy something merry, bright, and festive in the evening to celebrate the joy of the weekend.

The weekly lunar tension with the Saturn/Pluto conjunction colors Saturday, challenging us to balance our emotional energy that may feel overwhelming and gloomy. The Moon is void of course all day, so stick to routine tasks. This is NOT a day for holiday shopping; hold off the shopping until Sunday. Saturday would be a good day to decorate for the holidays and address greeting cards, after getting some vigorous exercise.

The Taurus Moon dawns with a thunderous clap Sunday morning, as this fixed earth Moon joins Uranus, the awakener. While the Taurus Moon draws us to what is practical and comfortable, planetary aspects broaden our vision. Sunday is full of planetary energy that is dreamy, expansive, idealistic, and inspiring. Make the most of the excellent potential of this day.

Monday the exalted Taurus Moon aligns with numerous planets, making for an active day. Mercury moves into Sagittarius, its sign of debilitation, through December 28th. Conversation flows easily, but there can be a tendency to exaggerate or say too much. This week is off to a rousing start.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
