In the Stars April 1-8, 2018…shining light on the astrology of the week

Easter symbolizes resurrection, and nature is bursting into its spring season, with the Sun, Mercury, and Uranus in the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, symbolizing spontaneity, adventure, and quick, and sometimes reckless movement. Mars is marching through Capricorn along with Saturn and Pluto. Capricorn symbolizes a different energy that is careful, calculating, rule-oriented, and serious about getting things accomplished. Aries pushes Capricorn to take some risks and get moving, while Capricorn calls Aries to slow down and do at least a little planning before moving forward. Together these energies are dynamic, and can produce powerful results. Mercury is still in retrograde motion, until April 15.  When Mercury is retrograde, it is time to review, re-think, revise, and rennovate. Clean up email and clear clutter, rather than start new projects. This is a powerful week for getting things accomplished. If you are in the midst of a big project, this is a week to give it a big push forward. This week’s Mars-Saturn conjunction, and the strong Capricorn Moon energy next weekend, combined with the big three demanding planets Mars, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn, make for an opportune work week. Plan accordingly, and use it wisely.

Easter Sunday, which is also April Fool’s Day, glows in the light of the Libra Full Moon during Easter morning’s services and celebrations. However, we may be reeling from the hard, challenging aspects of yesterday’s Full Moon. Lunar oppositions to Uranus and Venus may be de-stabilizing. A Sun-Mercury conjunction fosters kind and graceful communication. The Moon is Void-of-Course from 11:29 a.m. to 3:57 p.m., signaling a time to relax. Enjoy a special family meal, and take a leisurely walk. When the Moon is in Libra, we want to soak in the beauty that surrounds us. It could be a good afternoon to visit an art gallery, or a public garden or park. The Moon makes oppositions to Uranus and Venus, so once again, it is another day to try something new and be open to surprises. Make room for the magic to reveal itself.

Mars and Saturn form an exact conjunction in Capricorn on Monday, headlining the day and the week ahead. Pedal to the metal on your work, and you will make the most of this strong, demanding duo. This day is for digging in, shouldering responsibility, and solving difficult problems. The Mars-Saturn duo’s benefic sextile to the Scorpio Moon will help ease pressure.

The Scorpio Moon on Tuesday draws us into the deep waters of emotion and intrigue. The Scorpio Moon’s energies are magnified by a sextile to Pluto and a conjunction with Jupiter. Emotional dramas may play out. Insight is possible. Healing may occur with the help of a Moon-Chiron trine.

Bounce out of bed Wednesday and head to the gym, or to the path for a vigorous walk. We are fired up by the Sagittarius Moon, ready to reach for the stars. The optimism of the Sag Moon serves as backdrop, but Mercury is square to Mars and Saturn, creating a feisty, edgy energy. These are not the best days for confrontations, as our speech may be blunt and untamed. These are days to consider, as my parents always maintained, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it.”

Thursday starts slow and dreamy, softened by a Moon-Neptune square, but later in the morning we are inspired by a fiery, benefic Sun-Moon trine. The Sagittarius Moon loves adventure, especially out-of-doors.  Take a bike ride, or hike in a park. Thursday is Jupiter’s Day, and the Moon is in Sagittarius which is ruled by Jupiter. The day is benevolent and twice blessed.

Friday morning starts with a Moon-Uranus trine, opening the day to surprises. It may be hard to get going, as the Moon is void of course until 11:01 a.m. PDT. Then a Capricorn Moon frames the entire weekend for work and responsibility. Plan a big project for the weekend, and set out to accomplish it.

The cosmos holds a host of aspects that set forth a hard working Saturday. Luckily, the demands of the day are graced with the influence of Venus. Venus in Taurus makes generous trines to the Moon and Saturn in Capricorn. The planetary energy could be employed to create a beautiful spring garden, to paint a room in your home, or to make a wise, well-considered purchase.

The weekend’s work demands continue on Sunday, even more charged than Saturday’s energy. The Moon conjuncts Pluto and squares Uranus. These challenging aspects demand attention, application, and change. The Moon’s conjunction to Jupiter gives hope, optimism, and courage for completing our worthy projects. The Moon is void of course at 7:40 p.m. PDT, so at that time Sunday evening, relax and prepare for the week ahead.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.

  1. Joseph John Lang, Ph.D. says:

My mother was famous for the same statement you say your parents made to you — viz. “If you can’t say something good about somebody, don’t say anything.” Actually very hard to live by, given some of the folks we run into and up against (or they up against us), though I find it easier to act on and to believe in as I am older than I did when much younger. I guess with time and the “wisdom” it inevitably evokes in us, it’s easier just to focus elsewhere than on irritating people and events.

  2. Cathy Coleman says:

    John,
Thanks for your comment. I do appreciate them!
    Warmly,
    Cathy
